Boutique hotel opens it’s new garden pavilion
Southernhay House hotel in Exeter has managed to safely reopen to guests and have completed their new Levitate designed garden pavilion just in time.
The design was influenced by the existing colonial style verandah adjacent to the site of the pavilion. We mimicked the shape of that roof and designed the new pavilion columns to be a slatted steel lattice. The roof beams have been fabricated from several layers of laser cut plywood glued together which are then stiffened with bendy ply following the roof shape. As well as for sustainable reasons of using timber this made the roof beams modular and easy to install, and enabled us to deal with the potential cold bridging issues of connecting columns on the outside and roof beams on the inside.
