Self-build natural swimming pond complete
Recently finished and ready to swim in, here are some pictures of a natural swimming pond we’ve designed and built working with Clear Water Revival. Quite a learning curve to understand how these ponds work especially as there a few different systems to keep the water clean. This one has oxygenating plants and relies on the 3m depth of the pool to enable any debris to sink and be deep enough to be undisturbed. The top of the water is skimmed twice a day. There is no heating and the only chemicals used were those to take the phosphorus out of the tap water when it was first filled up. It was decided not to wait for the pond to fill up with rainwater – it would have taken several years.
The water gets up to 25 degrees celsius in the middle of the summer but it’s actually more pleasant slightly cooler. There is nothing quite like a summer evening swim with the swallows dipping around you.
