The Hairy Builder at Friars Mill
Our redevelopment of Friars Mill featured in the final episode of BBC2’s series The Hairy Builder. Although Levitate didn’t take part in the filming, we were intrigued to watch the programme when it aired last week. It covers a lot of the history of the mill, from its heyday as a flourishing textile mill to its subsequent dilapidation and then rescue. It was interesting to hear from those who used to work in the mill – you get a real feel for how much relief there has been to see the building returned to its former glory. As presenter Dave Myers says, “Thanks to fantastic restoration, this historic building has been brought back to life.”
Another of our ongoing projects, Leicester’s Jewry Wall, also makes an appearance in the episode, with some interesting facts about its Roman past. Worth a watch, you can catch up here: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
