When integrating new and old, it is essential to understand context and use. Privileged to have been commissioned to work in many beautiful and distinctive places, Levitate applies expertise and critical observation to understand what, if anything, needs to be done.

Whether on redundant settlements in historically, spiritually or naturally significant landscapes, or on buildings on brownfield sites, we seek to understand the relationship between the character and function of each place. This gives us confidence to propose change; understanding established typologies such as the long house, farmyard or mill; working with rather than against the character of a place when proposing incremental or immediate change; and getting the balance right between the integration or articulation of new and old.
